Vehicle Dashboard Warning Lights- What do they mean?
I am sure it has happened to most of us driving along and suddenly hearing a beep or a symbol light up on your dashboard. What could be wrong? While some symbols may be self-explanatory, others not so much. “Most warning lights do not mean a car is nearing imminent failure. Rather, they notify drivers of a potential issue that needs to be reviewed.” Let’s take a look at some standard warnings.

Anti-Lock Braking System
This one is quite important that you understand and notice when it pops up. When this light comes on, it means there is a problem with your vehicle’s braking system. Pull over and take it to an auto shop.
Service Engine Soon
There is simply a sensor in your car that allows this light to pop up and warn you that it is time to service your car. “You can probably drive safely with the service engine soon light on, as long as it is on solid and not flashing.”
Engine Coolant Temperature
This means that the temperature of the engine is running too high. When this light comes on, it is best to pull over and shut off the car in order for the engine to cool down. The normal temperature for an engine is in the range of 195 to 220 degrees Fahrenheit.
Battery
A battery light on the dashboard means there is an issue with the charging of the battery. Your car may not be getting enough voltage for the battery to operate correctly.
Low Tire Pressure
This light means one of your tires is under the recommended pressure. It is recommended not to drive at high speeds when the signal is on. Drive to your nearest gas station or auto repair to get your tires filled.
These are just a few common light warnings the list can go on and on. Whether you know what it is or not, our Ford Technicians at Kalispell Ford are ready to answer any question or help fix any issue.
